PAYING council rates with a credit card comes with an unexpected bite for Newcastle ratepayers.
Newcastle City Council has joined the growing number of businesses in the Hunter that are passing on merchant service fees to credit card users.The council has added a flat 1 per cent fee to the bills of ratepayers who use their credit cards to pay for council rates and other services.
